inspired by: “Flight from conversation” by Sherry Turkle)
As the time goes by, our world is becoming more advance and everything is just being I don’t know somewhat instant? Everything became just one click away or in a split second you can already do something. Just like what happened to communication, from writing letters to instant messaging, from face-to-face conversation to voice calls to video calls. Everything became so instant in communicating. As I have listened to the testimony of Sherry Turkle, she emphasizes that there are positive and negative effects in terms of the dynamic emergence of communication in which really affects our psychological and emotional means.
Let me emphasize it more so it can be more understandable to everyone. Emergence of communication is not bad at all. It is somehow became the more convenient way to communicate with other that’s why Sherry Turkle said that in spite of being alone, it will somehow look like you are together but then we all know that you are not that’s just alright. But then there should be limitations, not only for ourselves but also for others. Having technologies as a means of communication became more integral nowadays and somehow people are now forgetting how to exist in reality. As Jeff Goins said in his blog, “He is a believer in the effectiveness of communication but not always” What does that mean? Just simple communication in any means is not that effect so as the usage of technology or other “alien stuffs” and such. Yes, even though that there are positive effects that it will give but there will be really something to happen in the latter that it is not good for us. Let me share one of my experience, I admit that even me I sometimes rely on the social media or communicating apps to remain my sanity. I talked to my friends there a lot, I can even see that I can express more of myself if I will say it through electronic media than in personal and as the time goes by, I don’t even now how to start a conversation or even how to communicate with others because I am more fond of expressing myself through typing or sending it through social media or text message. Because of that, I have a fear of speaking in front of people and to be honest I can’t even keep myself calm as long as I am the one who is speaking in front of everyone because I am not used to it. I am not someone who can talk for 10 minute straight to have a conversation with anyone personally. It became my constant fear to speak to someone personally face-to-face. It is true that it can diminish social relationships because we rely on something instant, on something that we can feel that there is someone who can see what we can feel or can feel what we feel but how sure are we that they can feel us? How sure are that they can understand us? We can’t be sure of everything that we don’t see in our eyes. For me, it is all about starting a new living, we can’t just exclude the way of communicating through media but we can lessen it we can balance it we can’t just live our lives depending on something that we can’t be sure that will stay. We need someone to talk to not virtually, not through social media but personally. We should rebuild ourselves and learn once again to communicate through face-to-face conversation. Yes, we can’t stop the emergence of the communication as it goes through being more advance as the time goes by. But we need to balance, we have a life existing outside of it so why should we dwell on something that we can’t be sure that will make us okay? How can we sure that it can help us all the time?
As long as we can prevent it to ourselves, we should do it right away. We should think of ourselves first before others and after you do it that would be the time that you will influence others. We can make a little change. We can still revive the personal or face-to-face communication and in order to do that we should start by ourselves and no one can stop us even though the means of communication continues to evolve and always remember as Daniel Webster said, “"Converse, converse, CONVERSE, with living men, face to face, mind to mind-that is one of the best sources of knowledge."
Now, let me ask you for your opinion and suggestions!! Feel free to comment that down below!!

Social media let us connect lives around the globe easier and that is undeniably correct. However, connections alone wouldn't help us to self-reflect and understand human interaction if we don't engage in conversations.
ReplyDeleteWe should learn how to converse not only just to connect.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the growth of communication really emerged over time. It may have its advantages but also it also brings disadvantages that we are unaware of.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you've said that "We can’t be sure of everything that we don’t see in our eyes.". It is hard to know their real feelings and intentions through technology or social media because we can't see them face-to-face.
ReplyDeleteI agree with that you have said. The modern technology have helped us in many but we should also not forget that interacting face to face will help us find the true connection.
ReplyDeleteI agree that because of technology, it easy to connect with one another but it will not be considered as a true conversation. So, we must converse not just connect.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I've been encountered some people really good in expressing their thoughts and feelings through social media, but how can we really know that they're sincere if they don't engange in to face-to-face conversation. No criticism, what I want to say is that, in terms of real conversation they are not that confident, because of technologies it affects the conversational skills as well as self reflection.
ReplyDeleteI am one of those people who loves to express myself on social medias, but I realized that I should also be private since some will use it against me. Talking to people face to face is better rather than scrolling in social media for hours.
ReplyDeleteYes, social media alone is not bad. It is how people use it and how people got addicted to it that it affects our way of presenting ourselves and communicating with others.
ReplyDeleteNice blog! I must say without us there is no technology were invented so therefore we should be the one who will be handling this.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is indeed accessible. However, we should mindful in using it because there are cons in using technology.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is a big help but we should not forget to interact with others.
ReplyDeleteWe need to balance both, in order not lose ourselves, especially our confidence in speaking in front of the many.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong on using these social media platforms, but being too addicted and relying too much to it is the problem.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed. There is nothing wrong with the advancement of technology, you just need to acquire it to all for the right purposes and not abuse it as it will give negative effects to human relationship and attachments to people surrounding us.
